How Barkat Verification Works

Barkat is built for serious nikah—not casual dating. Our team manually reviews profiles before they go live. Here is exactly what we review, what we do not verify, and how you can stay safe.

What we manually review

Before a profile is published on Barkat, our team reviews the information submitted. Where users provide supporting documents, we check:

  • Identity: government-issued photo ID where submitted (e.g. Aadhaar, passport, driving licence)
  • Education: degree certificates, mark sheets, or university ID where submitted
  • Employment / profession: employment letter, professional registration, or business proof where submitted
  • Profile quality: photos, bio completeness, marriage intent, and compliance with our community guidelines

Profiles that pass review may show verification badges in the app. A reviewed profile means our team has checked submitted materials—it does not mean we guarantee every detail a user writes about themselves.

What we do not verify

To set clear expectations, Barkat does not:

  • Conduct criminal background checks or police verification
  • Independently verify family background, character references, or financial status
  • Guarantee that all free-text profile fields are accurate
  • Replace your own due diligence, wali involvement, or family vetting

Matrimony requires judgment from families and individuals. Barkat provides structure and document review where provided—we do not replace the responsibility families carry when evaluating a rishta.

How to use verification wisely

  • Look for verification badges on profiles in the app
  • Involve parents or a wali early in conversations
  • Meet in public or with family present when moving offline
  • Report suspicious profiles—we review reports within 24 hours
  • Read our Safety Guidelines for more detail

Built by AMU alumni

Barkat was founded by AMU alumni who saw educated Muslim families struggle with matchmaking tools that felt like dating apps. We built Barkat around education, deen, and family-first nikah—with manual profile review because trust matters in matrimony.
